Studio Theater Grand Opening Announced

0

The Center for the Performing Arts will mark the opening of the 200-seat Studio Theater with live musical performances. The grand opening events include Community Day on Saturday, February 26 and Studio ArtsFest on Sunday, February 27.

“The Studio Theater is a flexible theatrical space intended to nurture local and national artists. In addition to the Center’s resident companies and their productions, the Center will present national performers,” said Steven B. Libman, President/CEO of the Center for the Performing Arts. “Look for cabaret, dance, comedy – the theater is an extraordinary addition to the Palladium. I’m especially eager to utilize the Studio Theater for emerging artists, performers in the early stages of their careers. Opening weekend presents an amazing opportunity to join us as we unveil this intimate arts venue.”

Conceived as a flexible “black box” theater, the multiple configurations are ideal for intimate performances. The theater has four seating/stage configurations: cabaret, proscenium, round and thrust. The flexibility provides resident companies the ability to stage concerts and theatrical productions. Additionally, the theater will be used as support and rehearsal space for both the 1,600-seat Palladium concert hall and The Tarkington 500-seat proscenium theater (opening in August 2011).

The Studio Theater is across the Green from the Palladium concert hall and is adjacent to the Monon Greenway. For a complete listing of events visit www.TheCenterForThePerformingArts.org.

The Center for the Performing Arts, which is currently under construction in Carmel City Center, includes three venues: the 1,600-seat Palladium concert hall (now open), The Tarkington 500-seat proscenium theater (opening in August 2011) and the 200-seat Studio Theater (grand opening February 26-27). The Palladium will also be home to Michael Feinstein’s Great American Songbook Collection, acting as a museum and education center by day and a concert venue by night.
