INDOT to close 2 ramps at Keystone Avenue

The Indiana Dept. of Transportation plans to close two ramps at Keystone Avenue and Interstate 465 on the city’s northeast side beginning Wednesday at 9 a.m. and construction is expected to continue for seven days.

Here are the changes you can expect for your commute:

Drivers traveling north on Keystone will not have ramp access to eastbound I-465.

Drivers traveling east on I-465 will not be able to exit onto northbound Keystone.

Eastbound I-465 traffic will continue to have ramp access to southbound Keystone.

The closure of northbound Keystone to eastbound I-465 ramp will allow the state’s contractor to finish construction of southbound lanes on the west side of Keystone Avenue.

Utility relocations, which created a major stall and a delay in the Major Moves project, in the southeast quadrant of the interchange are expected to be completed by the end of the day tomorrow. INDOT says lane construction will last approximately 15 days, weather permitting.

Meanwhile, the north section of the eastbound I-465 to northbound Keystone ramp will be constructed during a 7-day closure.

Currently, northbound Keystone traffic enters eastbound I-465 via a temporary connection at the southwest quadrant of the interchange. Once closed, this temporary configuration will not reopen.

This $18.2 million Major Moves project is reconstructing the Keystone Avenue/Interstate 465 interchange as a partial cloverleaf. According to Indiana Dept. of Transportation the completed project will allow free-flow traffic movement on looping ramps from northbound Keystone to westbound I-465 and southbound Keystone to eastbound I-465 to reduce traffic congestion. The project includes added travel lanes—one in each direction on Keystone—plus added turn lanes from just south of 96th Street to 98th Street.
