The 57-year-old Carmel resident died from meningitis last Jan. 22 while visiting his ranch in Colorado and Mayor Andy Cook said he and the Westfield community will remember him as an outstanding entrepreneur.

According to Cook, Throgmartin had a determined perseverance that kept him going through two bouts of cancer and physical obstacles from the treatments.

“He had a strong presence in his community, he was quiet but meaningful,” Cook said. “He overcame a tremendous amount of challenges and continued to succeed as an entrepreneur.”

hhgregg was founded by Throgmartin’s grandfather in 1955. Throgmartin joined the family business as a salesman in 1975.

Throgmartin is survived by his wife of 35 years, Peggy, their son, twin daughters and two granddaughters.
