On February 9, 2012 at approximately 1:30 pm the Carmel Police Department responded to a crash in the intersection of 111th Street and Pennsylvania Street. A black 2004 Cadillac travelling northbound on Pennsylvania collided with a silver 2011 Chevrolet Aveo that was westbound on 111th. Witnesses at the scene stated that the silver Chevrolet did not stop at the stop sign and struck the Cadillac. The Carmel Police Department’s Accident Investigation Team was called to the scene to assist.
The driver of the Chevrolet, John Charles Nickel a 90 year old male from Carmel, was complaining of severe back pain. He was transported to Saint Vincent Hospital on 86th Street.
The driver of the Cadillac, Meyer P. Nahmias an 85 year old male from Indianapolis, was transported to IU North Hospital where he was pronounced dead by the ER doctor.
The accident is still under investigation.
