Westfield runners unite with Relay For Life

Runners from the City of Westfield’s We Run Westfield running club are expanding their races to help with a whole different kind of race.

The club training for the Indy 500 Mini Marathon to raise money for the Westfield Youth Assistance Program is using its fundraising and fitness efforts to also help one of its own through Relay For Life.

Carrie Cason, City of Westfield spokesperson, said the relay team, Shamrockin’ for a Cure, is composed of city employees and families to support a fellow employee who wishes to remain anonymous.

“We have an employee who has cancer right now, so we’re doing it on his behalf,” Cason said. “He’s a big advocate for Relay For Life. He spearheaded our team last year and has been a huge proponent of it for years. Unfortunately, he’s not able to do it this year, so there’s a whole bunch of us who are getting a team together.”
