Bike to School Day 2012 to take place this Wednesday

0

This month, the City of Carmel is celebrating National Bike Month and Wednesday, May 9th has been designated National Bike to School Day.  Orchard Park Elementary and Prairie Trace Elementary in Carmel are encouraging students to bike to school on the morning of May9th.  Orchard Park Elementary will have students join a bike ride from the Monon Community Center to the school lead by the Carmel Police Department.  Prairie Trace Elementary is encouraging all of their walkers and cyclists to ride into school on the 9th.  Please use extra caution when driving near either of these elementary schools during your morning commute.

This year marks the first-ever National Bike to School Day. Schools across the country are encouraged to bike to school in an effort to reduce the number of short car trips on the daily school run.  Bike to School Day events raise awareness about the positive health, safety and environmental benefits that can be gained from regular biking to and from school. Please contact David Littlejohn at the City of Carmel at 571-2417 for any questions.
