Students and parent volunteers constructed and staffed two competing lemonade businesses, chosing to divide and donate the profits among four community organizations: The Boys and Girls Club of Zionsville, The Zionsville Nature Center, The Zionsville Education Foundation and the Hussey-Mayfield Library.

At the end of the day, they presented each organization with a check for $110.

This project was the culmination of Pleasant View Elementary’s One Book, One School initiative, featuring the book The Lemonade War by Jaqueline Davies.

“The goal of the One Book, One School program was to create a shared reading experience within our school family,” said Principal Chad Smith. “I’m excited to say that throughout the last few weeks of school, everyone at PVE was touched by this book and its themes. It has been a great project, and we hope to organize a similar initiative next year.”
