Full of Noblesville and Hamilton County connections, It’s A Family Reunion: What’s Your Story? — a local television production that’s part documentary; part reality show — will premiere 6 p.m. Sunday on WFYI 1. The program depicts the past, present and future of real families across America as they gather for their annual family reunions. The climax of the reunion is a genealogical presentation and reveal by Ancestry.com.

The pilot episode features the Glenn, Glover and White families who have a rich Hoosier heritage that spans centuries. They were the first African-American families who settled in Sheridan in the early 1800’s. Since 1976, the three families have maintained close ties and continue to gather every three years for their reunion. The oldest living relative, Wayne Glover, 82, joins nearly 200 family members for a three-day celebration of sack races, board games, historical storytelling, a talent show and a very special church service, followed by a dramatic genealogical reveal.

Following five months of extensive research, Ancestry.com uncovered fascinating new details about the lineage of Wayne Glover’s grandfather, Clifton Tilton Glover. These findings, combined with newly-discovered documents, are revealed at the family reunion — helping settle long-held bets and literally, stunning everyone in the room.

The concept for the program was developed by Emmy award-winning news anchor Andrea Morehead, and produced by her company Clover Lane Media, LLC, in partnership with WFYI Productions. Morehead experienced the emotional journey firsthand as Ancestry.com retraced her own family’s roots a year ago, uncovering the never-before-seen marriage certificate of her great, great grandparents.

“My life changed in an instant,” she says. “The stories of my ancestors are no longer imagined. Now I know their names and truly understand the challenges they endured and the sacrifices they made so I can have a better life. They literally paved the way.”

It’s A Family Reunion: What’s Your Story? celebrates family traditions, cultural legacies, and the importance of researching one’s ancestral roots and family tree.
