Carmel does not have a water shortage or water ban

Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard wants to reassure residents that despite the dry weather, there is not a water shortage or water ban in the city of Carmel, Indiana. Carmel’s water comes from an underground aquifer, which is like an underground river and the supply in our area is substantial. This allows Carmel Utilities an abundant supply of water to treat and distribute.

Carmel Utilities continuously monitors its ground water supply, its water treatment facilities and water distribution systems. It will continue to evaluate the supply along with the drought conditions to determine if any additional action is required, but at this time, the water supply is adequate for the situation.

The addition of a new water treatment facility at 106th Street and Gray Road has also allowed Carmel Utilities to meet the largest demand for water the area has ever experienced. As part of a planned expansion that began in 2008, two new wells were completed and added to the system in the last month.

Carmel Utilities will continue to monitor the water supply and the drought situation and advise residents if any change in usage is necessary.
