96th & Towne project could start Oct. 1

Proposed intersection improvements at 96th Street andTowne Road could start as early as Oct. 1, according to Mayor Jim Brainard.

The project, which was originally scheduled to begin in 2011, was delayed by the Indianapolis City Council following complaints from residents in the condominium association just south of the intersection, according to Brainard.

“So, we decided to redesign it and push it 20 feet north so it’s entirely in Carmel,” he said.

The city is now waiting for Duke Energy crews to relocate existing utilities at the intersection, which is underway. Assuming the relocation stays on schedule, Brainard said, intersection improvements could be completed by the end of the year.
