Location for Bike MS event changed

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Indiana State Chapter has made a last-minute change to its Bike MS: Cruisin’ the Crossroads event, which will be held this Saturday, September 8 and Sunday, September 9, at the request of Carmel Mayor Jim Brainard. In order to better accommodate the BMW Championship, a PGA event being held at Crooked Stick Golf Course in Carmel, the Bike MS event has been moved approximately two miles from University High School to Creekside Middle School, located at 3525 W. 126th Street, Carmel, Ind.

The location change will have little effect on the rest of the event, with the exception of a slight adjustment in the routes, which vary in length from 30 to 100 miles.  In order to keep all of the routes for the event north of 116th Street, all eight of the routes will have to be adjusted approximately four to six miles near the start / finish line.  Otherwise, cyclists will be able to enjoy the same scenic course through Hamilton, Boone and Tipton Counties.

“Safety is the number one concern for our participants,” said Leigh Ann Erickson, president of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society – Indiana State Chapter.  “We have been working closely with city and county officials for the last 10 months to plan Bike MS: Cruisin’ the Crossroads around the BMW Championship.   In an effort to help us provide the best experience possible for our participants and in the spirit of partnership with our host community, we felt it was best to move the event.”

Cyclists interested in participating in the event one day or both can register the day of the event at Creekside Middle School beginning at 6:30 a.m.  The ride is fully supported with well-stocked rest stops and support vehicles along the route.  To participate, there is a $50 registration fee and a minimum fundraising goal of $150.  However, discount registration codes are available, and a number of fundraising tools are provided.  For more information, visit www.bikeMSindiana.org.

Creekside Middle School is located near 126th and Shelborne in Carmel.  The best route to avoid traffic congestion due to the PGA tournament, from the west, is to take 96th Street to Shelborne and travel north, and from the east, to take 131st (Main) Street to Shelborne and travel south.  It is best to avoid 106th, 116th and Meridian Streets altogether.  Attendees should enter the school grounds from 126th Street.  Turn right (south) into the entrance across the street from Wexley Chase subdivision.  Parking will be available in front of the building.
