Ballerinas and Bruisers, 180 S. Main St., recently was voted “Best in Children’s Clothing” for the third straight year in a local competition.

Steve Schwartz, owner of the children’s clothing and accessories boutique, said he is ecstatic.

“We are very excited to have this title for another year,” he said. “We have to thank all of our customers and friends who continue to support our store.”

Competition in the retail market is difficult, but Ballerinas and Bruises has maintained its top ranking. Schwartz said creativity and keeping with the times are crucial keys to his business’ success.

“It is a challenge in today’s market and with online competition to maintain the foot traffic that independently owned stores, such as ours, are used to receiving in past years,” he said. “Small mortar and brick proprietors have to promote more creatively and use the technology that is available to us, while maintaining a standard of excellence in customer service that our customers won’t receive from the Internet.”

Schwartz’s creative and unique approach to merchandising came from New York to Zionsville six years ago when he moved from the big city to the quaint Village. In November, Ballerinas and Bruisers will celebrate its fifth anniversary in Zionsville.

Ballerinas and Bruisers also supplies a wide range of gifts, toys, and accessories for all ages.

Janelle Morrison, director of marketing and public relations explains, “We bring in lines exclusive to our store, and even this region, in limited quantities. We have a selection of gift items from birthday parties to corporate gifts, and at Fall Festival we (launched) a new partnership with Inga’s Popcorn which will be sold exclusively at our boutique.”

Ballerinas and Bruisers carries exclusive and unique lines from infant sizes to size 14 for girls and boys. New fall lines include Persnickety, The Tea Collection, Lemon Loves Lime, Bit’z Kids for boys and girls, ToobyDoo and the Danish-designed line, Wheat.
