Pizza business keeps on truckin’

Twenty five years ago, a commercial airline pilot dreamed of the opportunity to have hot pizza delivered straight to him in the comfort of his home. Fast-forward 15 years and the result is Neighborhood Pizza, an easy and friendly pizza delivery service based in the heart of west Carmel. According to the business website,, “It is our intention to deliver you the hottest and freshest pizza right out of the oven and right to your door.”

Owner Tami Maslyk, whose ex-husband came up with the idea for the business, currently runs Neighborhood Pizza and, as of today, has been in business for 10 years. According to Maslyk, her pizza truck was a novelty idea at the time of its conception.

“Mine was the very first mobile food truck I had ever seen anywhere,” she said.

Additionally, according to the website, “Neighborhood Pizza is the only pizza delivery service in the state that makes the pizza in a mobile restaurant.” Maslyk said she also does quite a bit of catering for business lunches, birthday parties and other occasions.

Currently, Neighborhood Pizza only delivers to west Carmel (particularly the neighborhoods of the Village of West Clay, Laurel Lakes, High Grove, and Claridge Farms) during the night, but travels all over Carmel and Indianapolis during the day. Maslyk, however, said she plans to expand the business.

“I would like to open another truck because I am actually turning down business,” she said. “I turn down way too much (business) at night because I’m very dedicated to the areas that have helped me pay my bills.”

Business hours: 4-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday; business lunches only on Tuesday; 5-9 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday; and 4-10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
