INDOT logo gif 475x310 q85 2Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) contractors plan to shift traffic lanes tonight in the northbound Interstate 69 collector-distributor at Exit 205 (Old Exit 5).

Milestone Contractors, the state’s contractor for the $18 million interchange improvement project, will shift the traffic lanes under 116th Street that collect northbound I-69 traffic exiting to State Road 37 and distribute 116th Street traffic entering northbound I-69 and State Road 37.

Milestone is shifting traffic a few feet to the left, away from the 116th Street bridge wall, to allow adequate space for construction workers and equipment.  The contractor will require a temporary single-lane restriction to modify pavement markings in the collector-distributor from 10 p.m. Wednesday until 5 a.m. Thursday.  The right lane of northbound I-69 will be restricted for a short time as the operation begins.  Access to Exit 205 will remain open.

Construction on the northbound side of the Exit 205 interchange started this spring.  I-69 is currently restricted to two lanes north of Exit 205 as a new two-lane flyover ramp to State Road 37 is constructed.  The 116th Street loop ramp to northbound I-69 and State Road 37 is expected to close for 14 days after the Allisonville Road bridge over I-465 opens.  Once the ramp is reopened, 116th Street access to northbound I-69 will remain closed for an additional 46 days.  Milestone is expected to complete the northbound improvements this year and finish southbound work by the end of 2013.
