On Nov. 11 at 12:30 p.m., the Alzheimer’s Association will host its 22nd Annual Chocolate Sunday at the Ritz Charles, 12156 North Meridian St. During the event, attendees may enjoy chocolate delicacies, a gourmet brunch and bid on silent auction items all to fund Alzheimer’s care, support and research.

The keynote speaker will be Dr. William Thies, chief medical and scientific officer for the Alzheimer’s Association. Dr. Thies will discuss new research and advancements in clinical trials for Alzheimer’s drugs. Retired Channel 13 Chief Meteorologist Bob Gregory will return as this year’s Chocolate Sunday emcee.

“Chocolate Sunday has been great fun for me for several years,” Gregory said. “I’m proud to help increase awareness of what the Association is doing. The Chapter has been blessed with a distinguished number of keynote speakers whose personal stories will bring you to the edge of your chair.”

Bidders on silent auction items will have an array of choices at their fingertips including gift baskets, home décor, vacations and jewelry. Some of the live auction items include a five-night stay at a Vail, Colo. condo, a one-week stay at a Bonita Springs condo, hot air balloon rides and more.

This year, artwork from Robert “Bob” Schwartz also will be up for auction during the event. Schwartz took numerous photographs while traveling with his wife, Phyllis, and then put oils to canvas based on his favorite photos. He developed dementia several years before his death and died from Alzheimer’s disease on Nov. 19, 2010.

Families and corporate sponsors are encouraged to get involved by reserving their own tables or buying individual tickets for the event. Individual tickets are available for $125 at the benefactor level, $100 at the patron level and $85 at the friends level. Families can purchase tables of eight for $1,000. Corporate sponsorships are available at varying levels.
