Brooks is the only option

Editor,

Over the past 20 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with Republican Susan Brooks on many public policy and community initiatives, including right here in Carmel. I admire her common sense, collaborative approach to solving tough issues and am proud to support her to represent the 5th District in the U.S. Congress. She has proven that she is dependable, earning praise for her work as deputy mayor of Indianapolis. President George W. Bush recognized her skill and dedication, appointing her to serve in the important position of U.S. Attorney for the Southern District. And Susan’s experience at Ivy Tech Community College is exactly what we need in Congress. She will be an advocate for initiatives that will help put Hoosiers back to work. Jim Blessing’s recent articles in support of 5th District Congressional candidate Scott Reske are way off the mark. He says Reske is bipartisan but Reske joined House Democrat Leader Pat Bauer and the Democrat caucus in an unprecedented walkout, fleeing to Illinois and refusing to do the people’s business for five weeks. I would hardly call this bipartisan. Even worse, the walkout was to protest discussion and action on the “right to work” bill opposed by big union bosses. The 5th District does not need a representative who will fold under the pressure of big special interests and ignore the needs of the constituents they represent. From where I sit, there is no contest. Susan Brooks will make an excellent representative for all in the 5th District.
