Mark your calendars now for the opportunity to celebrate America Recycles Day by responsibly disposing of your old electronic devices. The Carmel High School-based Carmel Area Roots and Shoots Club will host an “Anything with a Plug” recycling event Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the CHS stadium parking lot (northwest corner of 136th St. and Keystone Pkwy., west side of the stadium).

Also made possible by DAO Recycling and Carmel Utilities, the event allows participants to tidy up a home, business, basement or garage without adding items to landfills or introducing toxins into the atmosphere. Items accepted include appliances, computers, televisions, electronics, bicycles, batteries, lawn mowers, cell phones, cassettes, video tapes and more. Anything with a plug will be accepted, but there is a $5 fee for each mattress, tube TV, and tube monitor. No paint or household hazardous waste will be accepted.

For a full list of items accepted, visit www.daoindy.com/drop_off. Books of any kind also will be collected and donated to a local nonprofit for distribution to the needy. For large item pickup, call 375-7788 or email your name, address and phone number and description of recyclables to [email protected]. Charges may apply for large item pickups. Tax-deductible donation receipts are offered for many items. For other questions, contact [email protected].
