Bruce Gipson, a Carmel firefighter and former Carmel police officer, was arrested on Dec. 27 on preliminary charges of domestic battery, criminal confinement and battery with injury.
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police officers were called to a house in the 7200 block of Harbour Isle to check the welfare of a person. According to a police report, a woman had called 911 and stated that she had received a text message from Gipson’s wife, Billie. The women had prearranged the received message to be a distress signal.
While the officers were en route to the house, a 911 call was made by Gipson’s adult son, Chaz Worth, in reference to a domestic disturbance going on between Gipson and Billie Gipson.
Upon arriving at the house, the officers met with Worth who informed them that Gipson was intoxicated, arguing with his mother, Billie and that Gipson was holding her in the master bathroom.
Entering the house, the police found Gipson in an aggressive and agitated state in the master bathroom. Billie was found bent over and crying in the master bathroom. Gipson appeared aggressive toward Billie in front of the officers, speaking to her in a loud and threatening manner.
Billie Gipson stated to an officer on the scene that her husband had been drinking and that she had expressed to him that she wanted to end their relationship which caused a verbal argument to begin. Gipson then followed Billie throughout the house and they eventually ended up in the master bathroom. Billie stated that she attempted to walk out of the master bathroom several times; however Gipson would raise his arms to block her from leaving. Billie stated that Gipson then pushed her away from the doorway and then grabbed her from behind, raising his knee and placing it in her back. Despite telling him to let her go, he would not, according to Billie.
Billie Gipson did not have any visible injuries or marks at the time of the incident but did say that she felt pain in her arms and back, according to a police report.
Gipson was placed under arrest for criminal confinement, domestic battery and battery with injury.
