The Boone County Child Advocacy Center was established in 2010, with grants supported by the Community Foundation of Boone County, the National Children’s Alliance and the Boone County Community Network, along with funds from generous individuals.  The center is a 501(c)(3), nonprofit entity.

The CAC’s mission is to minimize the trauma to any child who is involved in allegations of sexual and/or serious physical abuse or neglect and the subsequent investigation of those allegations.  The only agency of its kind in Boone County, the Boone County Child Advocacy Center is a center in which a multidisciplinary team approach is used to interview children of abuse and/or neglect in a safe, child-friendly environment. The BCCAC reduces the re-victimization of the child, removes barriers to investigation and treatment, and enhances criminal prosecution with its distinctive multidisciplinary and united approach to child abuse cases.

In 2011, 1,014 child abuse and neglect reports were made in Boone County.  The growing number of these cases, and the desire to ensure that those responsible were fully prosecuted, led to the development of the Boone County Child Advocacy Center.  The center was initially established in 2011.
