Carmel restaurant hosting ‘Dine and Donate’ now through the end of April

With April being National Child Abuse Prevention Month, activities are happening all over the country and within the state to raise awareness. In Indianapolis, businesses and organizations are teaming up to support the cause. Divvy, a local restaurant in Carmel’s City Center, will be hosting a ‘Dine and Donate’ in support of The Cherish Center, a local non-for-profit agency based in Noblesville.

Now through the end of April, a portion of Divvy’s restaurant sales will be donated to The Cherish Center and its ongoing mission to serve as advocates for children and families impacted by abuse and neglect. “I support the effort of the Cherish Center and their very important mission, not only do they provide families with a protected community but they give children a chance to thrive after tragedy,” said Kevin ‘Woody’ Rider, owner of Divvy and Cherish Center Board Member.

The Cherish Center is a resource for children and families that seek a safe environment after an incidence of abuse or neglect. “It is important for The Cherish Center to inform the community of who we serve and what we do,” said Wendy Rayburn, Executive Director of The Cherish Center. “Our primary role is to conduct forensic interviewing, but we also offer a variety of prevention services that we hope will facilitate long term changes in behavior for children and families most vulnerable to abuse.”

About The Cherish Center

The Cherish Center is a strong alliance of organizations working together to provide advocacy services for children who have been abused and neglected. The Cherish Center provides a safe environment for children and their families to seek legal, health care and social services needed to address an incidence of abuse or neglect. Through a comprehensive forensic interviewing process The Cherish Center gives children, who have been harmed, a safe place to talk to a team of experts. The organizations within this alliance then become the advocacy team for the victim and his/her family through the investigation to keep the abuse from not happening again.

The Cherish Center and its partner organizations have aided in the increase of prosecution of child abuse and neglect cases in Hamilton County and surrounding counties. In 2012 alone, 311 forensic interviews were conducted at The Cherish Center, more than 100 from the number of interviews conducted in 2011.
