John Radford Holmes Jr., 74, of Westfield, died Dec. 30, 2013. He was born Feb. 12, 1939, in Logansport, Ind., to the late John Radford Holmes Sr. and Mary Quirk Holmes. John received his bachelor’s degree from Valparaiso University and his master’s degree from Indiana State University. Holmes began his career in teaching with Indianapolis Public Schools. Later he became an administrator with Carmel Clay Schools. John was involved in the Hamilton County Council for 10 years. He also gave many hours serving Prime Life Respite Care. Holmes was a longtime member of the Hamilton County and Marion County Council on Aging. He was appointed by Governor Mitch Daniels to the Choice Commission on Aging. He was also a member of the Carmel Clay Kiwanis Club and the Carmel Clay Historical Society. In addition to his parents, Holmes was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon Roach Holmes; and his son, John Radford Holmes III. He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth Holmes of Muncie; a son, David (Bekky) Holmes of Carmel; and a grandson, Benson Holmes. A funeral service was conducted at Radiant Christian Life Church, 16162 Carey Rd. in Westfield.
