Carmel police said Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested March 16 after a traffic stop in which he failed several field sobriety tests.

Officers stopped Irsay’s car at 11:41 p.m. March 16^th in the 13000 block of Horseferry Road in the Village of West Clay. Officers said he was driving at a slow rate of speed, stopping in the roadway and failed to signal a turn, a Carmel police news release said.

During the course of the investigation, Irsay failed several roadside field sobriety tests and was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of operating while intoxicated, the release said.
Police also charged Irsay with four felony counts of possession of a controlled substance because when they searched Irsay’s vehicle, multiple prescription drugs were discovered in pill bottles. The Schedule IV prescription drugs were not associated with any prescription bottles found in the vehicle, the release said.

Irsay was held for half a day in the Hamilton County Jail, but he paid a $22,500 bond in cash and left the jail at about 1:30 p.m. March 17, according a sheriff’s office spokesman.

“According to the bond agreement, Mr. Irsay’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at 1:15 p.m. in the Magistrate Court located at the Hamilton County Courthouse,” sheriff’s office spokesman Bryant Orem said.
