Your article in the April 1 issues on Sheriff Campbell and County Councilman Gene Thompson was enlightening. Let me get this straight- apparently Gene Thompson will micromanage $25 appropriations by the Sheriff, yet this is the SAME Gene Thompson who led a one man crusade (and won) to defund a $3 million bridge that had already been funded, designed and approved by multiple levels of local, state and federal government.
Yes, the county had been granted $3 million by the federal government to pay for the bridge. Yet because Mr. Thompson didn’t like something about the bridge (who knows what), he led the current County Council to turn the money away! And guess what? We, the taxpayer’s of Boone County have to come up with the $3 million out of local funds. Yes dear fellow taxpayer, you and I are going to be taxed to come up with it. Here’s a hint to rectify the problem—Thompson is being challenged in the
primary.
