Carmel’s May Gallery Walk will be tonight from 5 to 9 p.m. and it will feature a unique contest for dog owners who make the trek downtown.

First, find the roaming photographer throughout the Arts & Design District from 6 to 8 p.m. and have her take your photo with your dog. Then “like” your photo on the Carmel Arts & Design District’s Facebook page before May 16.

The photo with the most likes will win a $100 overnight stay for your dog at Happy Dog Hotel and Spa, complete with grooming.

This month’s “gallery walkers” will also have something special to celebrate – the grand opening of Hoosier Salon at 20 N. Range Line Rd. The celebrated statewide art gallery had a nearly year-long flirtation with moving to Carmel before deciding to pull the trigger last month.

The gallery opened May 1 with two different exhibits, “Impressions of Indiana” and “Take it Outside,” that will run through June 7. The exhibits feature Hoosier Salon artists Rena Brouwer, Jeff Klinker, Jeanne McLeish, Chris Newlund, Dave Voelpel and Marilyn Witt.

“Impressions of Indiana” showcases oil and pastel paintings of scenes from Indiana, while “Take it Outside!” features plein air watercolor paintings.

All works are available for purchase.

A ribbon cutting will take place at 5:30 p.m. In addition, Hoosier Salon will be hosting an opening reception.

Wine & Canvas will offer people the unique opportunity to paint their own masterpiece to take home and also offer a complimentary class on the hour. This free activity will be located at their gallery at 111 W. Main St., Suite 120 and will feature a dog as a painting subject.

French Bleu Gallery will showcase a series of portraitures by Susan Mauck; ArtSplash Gallery will exhibit “Exploring the elements,” original art exploring different mediums, styles and elements of design by Anna Afshar at 111 W. Main St., Suite 140; and Eye On Art Gallery at 111 W. Main St., Suite 150 will feature works from California artist Randall Sexton, international paper maker Jeong Choon and visual artist Willie Faust.

The monthly scavenger hunt will begin at the ArtSplash Gallery. This month’s completed sheet will enter participants in a contest for a chance to win one of the following prizes:

● A custom pet portraiture by Cindy Cradler of ArtSplash Gallery ($350 value)

● A two night stay for your pup at Happy Dog Hotel and Spa, including grooming ($200 value)

● A miniature quilt from the Museum of Miniature Houses ($75 value)
