Dr. Larry Ley, the addiction specialist who has been accused of running a “pill mill” operation in Carmel, has made bail and been released from Hamilton County Jail.
Ley originally has a bail of $1 million set for the county, but that amount was later lowered by a judge to $300,000. Ten percent of the bond was paid to Uptown Bail Bonds and Ley was released on Aug. 13. He was then transferred to Howard County, where he has bail set at $1 million, with no ability to pay only 10 percent.
Howard County has authority because Ley had an office in Kokomo.
Ley’s attorney, James Crum, did not return calls on Aug. 15 and was out of the office.
Andre Miksha, prosecutor in this case, said it’s undetermined who put up the $30,000 needed to help Ley make bail. Ley’s financial assets were frozen as a part of the investigation.
Ley was arrested on July 25 along with several co-defendants, who have made bail themselves.
Miksha told the Current recently that no charges have been dropped in this case.
Ley has been accused of taking cash and carelessly handing out prescriptions for Suboxone, an opiate used to treat patients with painkiller addictions.
