Mark Smith, Clay Middle School Assistant Principal, was named Assistant Principal of the Year in District 5 by the Indiana Association of School Principals. Indiana is divided into 12 districts and District 5 includes all schools in the following counties: Hamilton, Boone, Madison, Tipton, Howard, and Miami.
Smith was selected based on his exemplary educational leadership exhibited at a school building level, district and community level, and at the state level. He has spent the last 25 years in the Carmel Clay School District, serving students and families as a teacher, coach, mentor and administrator.
“Mark has shown the ability to reach all levels of students and does it in a very caring and non-confrontational way,” Todd Crosby, Clay Middle School Principal said. “He looks to earn the student’s respect, never demanding it. He is compassionate in his willingness to see every student that struggles as an individual. Mark sees the value in people, and he works diligently each day to live this out.”
Smith was recognized by the Carmel Clay School Board on Monday, September 22, 2014 for his achievement. On November 22, 2014, the Indiana Association of School Principals will announce the 2014 State of Indiana Assistant Principal of the Year at a banquet honoring all the district winners.
