My mailbox has been strangely devoid of campaign flyers, but on Sunday night it received a political message none the less. That night someone threw a raw egg at it, tore off the house and street numbers and removed the Dave Russ (who is running in the 39th district) sign that I had placed at the end of my driveway across from the mailbox.
I had gotten that yard sign when my Denney for Congress sign, which had graced the front of my property since the primaries, disappeared the same night four signs for Susan Brooks were put up across the street from it. Shawn Denney is the Democrat, running against Brooks in the 5th District.
Someone has neglected to tell supporters of the Republican ticket that removing opponents’ signs is not only bad form, but (in this case) involves trespassing and theft. Vandalism is a crime all by itself.
Such, alas, is electioneering in Hamilton County.
