On April 4, 2014, the State of Indiana shut down U.S. 31 in the Carmel area in order to rebuild the highway. The work should be done by the end of November. Thus, for eight months that section of the highway will be have closed. Businesses along that section of U.S. 31 are complaining about the loss of business due to the highway’s reconstruction. If there is not legal recourse for those businesses to get compensation from the State of Indiana, perhaps those businesses should hire a lobbyist in order to get a bill though the Indiana General Assembly which would compensate them for their lost profits.
