  1. With regard to the Governor serving “bigotry”, why are those opposed to “freedom of religion” not guilty of it? As nearly as I can tell, there may be a few folks who thought this RFRA would allow for gays, etc. to be legally discriminated against but most knew that was not the case! The law gave a religious defense when the government seeks to impose its will on individuals and other entities. Suppose, for example, that I operate a bakery. further suppose that a hooded Klansman walks in and wants a “hooded cake”. Next, suppose that our government tells me I have to bake it. I cannot tell the Klansman where to go? By the way, I am going to anyway!

  2. John, let’s take a similar situation. Say the Klansman is the baker, and black woman comes in to order a cake for a wedding. The Klansman refuses to serve her citing his religious beliefs. Or say someone orders a bacon double cheeseburger at a restaurant and is refused service because the server is Jewish. Or say you go to a grocery store and buy coffee, but are refused service because the cashier is Mormon. Or say a Pastor refuses to perform a mixed race marriage. Each of these allows a religious defense. It gets ridiculous very quickly, and gives people an opportunity to discriminate based on a personal interpretation. After all, the Klansman considers himself a Christian too. Doesn’t he now have as much right as you to impose his religious views under the law; stupid as his views are? Pence signed this law because he has an ambition to be on the national stage, and this makes him the darling of the far right and tea party. And has been proven in this case and many others, give far right conservatives a microphone and they will eventually get tangled up in the cord.
