“When people hear the words ‘health food,’ they tend to think of kale first,” explained Eric Moore, co-owner of the new Vitality Bowls restaurants popping up around the north side of Indianapolis.

Vitality Bowls promotes a healthy lifestyle by serving up a variety of superfoods, “and this food tastes good,” Moore said.

The newest location at Traders Point Shopping Center near Zionsville is set to open the weekend before Memorial Day.

In February, the first Indianapolis-area location opened on Main Street in Carmel. Moore and his partners expect to open a third location in Fishers before the end of summer.

Açaí bowls are featured on the menu. Other items include steel cut oatmeal, juices, smoothies, panini sandwiches, salads and soups.

Moore is an enthusiastic advocate of the natural superfoods available at Vitality Bowls. He described improvements in his own personal health, stating that he has eliminated his acid reflux symptoms.

“When we put the right things in our bodies, they can heal themselves,” he said.

Moore and his wife, Sherrie, discovered Açaí bowls while vacationing in California. By bringing Vitality Bowls to Indiana, Moore said they want to promote a healthy lifestyle for the community — kids and adults alike.

The business has already found success, especially among active groups like student athletes and yoga groups. The first catering order received by the business was placed by a group of 200 students.

Moore says that the employees are extremely knowledgeable and are ready to help guide those who may just be starting a healthier lifestyle.

Among the most popular items is the Dragon Bowl, topped with pitaya fruit and bee pollen. Moore characterized bee pollen as a “fountain of youth.”

The co-owner of Vitality Bowls expects to start hiring for the Traders Point location by the end of April and plans to work with Zionsville Community High School to hold a hiring fair for students. Those interested in potential employment may email [email protected].
