At the Zionsville Redevelopment Commission meeting June 22, commissioners heard an update on the Bennett Parkway road extension from 106th and 96th streets.

The project is still in the early stages, and the city is doing additional research before they make any decisions.

“The commission did not make any decisions specific to Bennett, other than to await the arrival of the Engineer’s Feasibility report on it findings specific to review of the wetlands and pipeline locations within the area,” said the town’s director of planning and economic development Wayne DeLong.

Lots must be done before the extension can be built, including coordinating with area agencies and property owners, determining alignment and the feasibility of that alignment of Bennett Parkway, determining the cost of the project which needs to be updated, determining the funding sources for expenses on the project, acquiring land and designing the project before it can be constructed.

The extension would continue Bennett Parkway from its end location now at CR 700 S. southbound to intersect with 96th Street near the Hoosier Village Retirement Center. According to DeLong, the new segment of Bennett Parkway would encourage commercial and industrial growth in the Bennett Technology Park.

DeLong said the cost must be updated, as there was an estimate made in 2010 but that estimate has changed. Once the cost is updated and the commission finishes working with agencies and property owners, they will move on to finding the sources for funds.
