HSE Schools will welcome a new superintendent to its faculty this school year. Dr. Janice Combs joined HSE faculty as the new HSE Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction. And while this may be Combs first school year at HSE, she has plenty of experience with her former role at the Metropolitan School District of Lawrence Township.
“I’ve loved all the different opportunities I’ve had in Lawrence Township,” Combs said. “I got to help design and build the early childhood center. I led the elementary school design. I got to lead several projects around school start times. I did some leadership on secondary redesign. I’ve had some varied opportunities that have enriched my career.”
Combs began her role at HSE in early June and has since been learning the ropes of her new district. HSE School Superintendent Dr. Allen Bourff said he was pleased to welcome Combs to the school board.
“She is a can-do trailblazer with an outstanding record of academic innovation,” Bourff said. “Her experience from previous school districts will prove to be vital in mentoring our principals and administrators.”
Combs said that it was bittersweet to leave her former district after being involved in MSDLT, but she is excited for her role in HSE Schools.
“Hamilton Southeastern is a growing school district that will be encountering new challenges because of all that growth. I’m looking forward to serving there,” she said. “I’m a passionate public educator. My dream is always to build a system that honors children and helps them all to be successful. As long as I feel like I can make a difference, I love the work.”
