A week of discounts and deals are coming to many of the shops on Main Street, as merchants have taken the initiative to resurrect sidewalk sales.

Terri Bracken, owner of Earth Explorer Toys, and Sandy Rogers, owner of Butler’s Pantry, chose a weekend that they felt would have a lot of foot traffic and reached out to other merchants to see if there was additional interest.

At least 20 more merchants on and near Main Street will participate including Art In Hand, Village Yarn Shop, Kogan Antiques & Lighting, Ballerinas and Bruisers, Black Dog Books and Inga’s Popcorn. By having the sale at the end of summer, Rogers said this will allow merchants to make room for fall merchandise.

Sales begin as early as July 23 and will end on July 31. While some stores may offer deals and discounts the entire week, some will choose specific dates to participate. Each store will also decide what sorts of specials, discounts and deals to offer.

“Don’t think there aren’t things on sale just because there aren’t things on the sidewalk,” said Rogers, as some stores will opt to keep their sales indoors.

Butler’s Pantry’s sale will start on July 23 offering display items and old seasonal items for the first several days. Then Rogers plans to offer a discount on items in the store. “It’s going to be a progressive thing,” she said. The sale and discounted items will change throughout the week.

The last day of sales at Earth Explorer Toys will commemorate the blue moon that night with a “once in a blue moon bag sale.” The bags will be sealed and the surprise items inside will be worth at least double their price, which will range from $5 to $25.

“With everybody kind of doing their own thing, I think it will be fun for everybody to stop in to all the stores to see what their specials are,” said Rogers.
