TCC, the largest Verizon Premium Wireless Retailer in the U.S., announces today a $1 million donation and multi-faceted 5-year partnership with Riley Children’s Foundation to benefit patients of Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health.
On Tuesday, Aug. 25, nearly 1,000 TCC employees from across the country will dress in superhero capes and costumes to participate in the first-ever “Rally for Riley.” During a presentation outside of Riley Hospital, TCC CEO Scott Moorehead will make an official check donation to hospital executives and then invite all employees and attendees to form a human chain around the hospital, symbolizing a “hug” for the 300,000 patient visits that occur at Riley each year. This will be the first time an organization has linked its employees around the hospital.
“As part of our continued efforts to give back and make a difference in the lives of children across the country, there was no doubt in our minds that we wanted to get involved with Riley Hospital,” said Moorehead. “Simply writing a check isn’t what we’re about at TCC. Instead, we developed a plan to give back to Riley Hospital in a way no one has before. It’s a privilege to help brighten the days for the children of Riley Hospital, and I couldn’t be more proud.”
A second component of the partnership is the new TCC Rain Forest art and activity room, an area solely dedicated to art projects and games for patients on the 7th floor of Riley Hospital. TCC will outfit the room with art supplies and the latest hi-tech games and gear, such as motion sensing floor projectors, touch screen computers, interactive wall touch screens, tablets and a multi-media projector. At the check presentation, the company will give supplies for the TCC Rain Forest room, which were donated by hundreds of employees from across the country.
“Children visit the physicians of Riley Hospital more than 300,000 times each year for hope and healing,” said Ryan McCarty, director of customer and employee relations for TCC. “Amidst regular doctor’s visits and checkups, we want to help take the patients’ minds off their health issues and allow them to just be kids. The art therapy room will give the children and teens of Riley Hospital an outlet for putting their imaginations and artistic abilities to use.”
In addition, more than 350 nationwide TCC stores are selling screen cleaning cloths featuring artwork created by five different Riley Hospital patients. The screen cloths will be on sale at each store for $10 with 100 percent of the sales going back to Riley Hospital.

The donation to Riley Hospital falls on the heels of TCC providing 100,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children across the country through its Culture of Good program, an initiative in which the company gives back to every community it does business. The Culture of Good includes three additional annual programs: providing canned goods to local food banks, giving supply packs to 3,500 teachers across the U.S., and volunteering time to improve the environment. To date, TCC has donated nearly $3 million through its Culture of Good.
Since being founded with a single store in Marion, Indiana, in 1991, TCC has grown to operate more than 630 locations in 37 states. In Q2 2015, the company acquired 55 new Verizon Wireless Premium Retailers: 37 Wireless Communications stores in Carolina and Georgia and 18 Phones Plus stores in the Pacific Northwest.
