Residents of Fishers or surrounding areas looking to get more involved in their community have their chance.

The Newcomer’s Club of Fishers will hold its first meeting of the 2015-16 season on Sept. 10 in the Kirkendall Room at the Delaware Township Government Center, 9090 E. 131st Street. The meeting is to begin at 6:45 p.m.

“The purpose of the Newcomer’s Club in Fishers is to bring together residents of Fishers and neighboring communities for social relationships and to take an active interest in the community of charitable support,” said Roberta Petrovich, an active member of the Newcomer’s Club.

The first meeting will be an ice cream social and there will be a presentation about the Come to Me food pantry, which the group actively supports. The second meeting will be held in October, and will feature a speaker from the Fishers government.

“Mostly we help Come to Me food pantry,” Petrovich said. “We collect food at different times during the year and at least at one meeting we have a fun activity, last year we played bunko and the monetary results from that were donated to the Come to Me pantry.”

Some other activities the Newcomer’s Club has taken part in include tree plantings at Brooks School Park, buying a brick at a monument and supporting various groups such as the women’s shelter in Noblesville.

The club also has many opportunities for individual activities, as there are only seven meetings a year. These activities include breakfast club, lunch bunch, ladies dining group, couples dinner group, book club, euchre and more.

Petrovich said although many members of the club are retired, it is open to all ages. Membership dues are $20 a year.

New members are welcome, and anyone interested is to email Margie Bultman at [email protected].
