After cutting ties with former CEO James Burkhart of Carmel, who is the subject of an FBI investigation, American Senior Communities has also terminated relationships with its chief operating officer and accepted the resignation of its chief financial officer.

The company issued the following statement Oct. 2 about recent changes:

As previously announced, American Senior Communities terminated its relationship with James Burkhart, former CEO of the organization. Likewise, as a result of the federal investigation and ASC’s related internal investigation, ASC has terminated its relationship with COO Dan Benson. In addition, CFO Roger Werner has submitted his resignation, effective immediately. ASC does not anticipate any other leadership departures.

ASC has launched an active search to find an interim and permanent CEO, COO and CFO who will promote and maintain the ASC culture of caring for others while demonstrating the highest level of integrity.

ASC’s internal investigation confirmed that the federal investigation does not in any way involve the care provided to residents of any facility serviced by ASC.

ASC is proud of its employees who work hard and embody the company’s commitment to integrity and serving its residents. ASC will not allow the actions of a few individuals to compromise its mission of providing quality care. ASC’s owners, Board of Directors and senior leadership are confident that ASC employees will continue the strong tradition of providing excellent care, which has made ASC a valued and respected provider of senior care in Indiana.

ASC thanks its residents, families and partners for their support. ASC is committed to keeping its values of Compassion, Attentiveness, Relationship, and Excellence as its highest priorities.
