The January Teacher of the Month winner is Holly Hook, a fifth grade teacher at Zionsville Middle School. Student Mia Wilhite nominated her. As a reward, Mia won a pizza party for her class, and Hook won a $50 gift card for Market District, Teacher of the Month sponsor.

Here is Mia’s winning essay:

My math teacher at Zionsville Middle School is Mrs. Hook, and I would like to nominate her for the Teacher of the Month. She is a caring, creative and inspiring teacher. Math can sometimes be hard, but if you have trouble with something, she makes it her mission to help you until you understand it completely. We do a kids cook off where we have challenges like choosing a meal that most kids would like, then make multiple graphs and charts about it. I have so much fun because it feels like a game, but it’s also math!
