Five-time Grammy Award nominee Michael Feinstein will present four recent winners of the Great American Songbook Academy™ in concert at Carnegie Hall onFebruary 10, 2016. The students will join Feinstein at Zankel Hall for an evening of song entitled, Blame It On My Youth: the next generation of Songbook Ambassadors.
Michael Feinstein is on a mission to keep the American Songbook alive for generations to come. To that end he created the Songbook Academy™ to teach high school students the historical and contextual breadth the American songbook has contributed to not only our culture, but to the world. The Songbook Academy™ is a summer music intensive for young singers who have an interest in the American Songbook. Students who love the music of classic Broadway shows, jazz, and popular music have the life-changing opportunity to work with music industry pros, Broadway veterans, award winning performers, and educators from the top university music and theatre programs in the country. The annual program takes place at the home of the Great American Songbook Foundation at the Center for the Performing Arts in Carmel, Indiana.
The Songbook Academy™ is a celebration of the Golden Age of American Popular music. This program is the only high school intensive in the U.S. dedicated solely to the music from Broadway, Hollywood musicals and the Tin Pan Alley era of the early to mid-twentieth century (1920s – 1960s).
