The Zionsville Town Council held its first regular morning meeting July 25 and discussed town hall funding and alcoholic beverage service. The council had previously reserved the fourth Monday morning of the month to discuss its agenda for its upcoming monthly evening meeting, which is held the first Monday of the month.

What happened: The council approved an ordinance establishing a town hall project fund. Councilor Tom Schuler was the lone vote in opposition.

What it means: The council previously authorized the financing and construction of a new town hall building. This ordinance establishes a separate fund for depositing revenue from other town sources that will be used to make loan payments on the town hall.

What’s next: This was the second reading of the ordinance. The fund is now established and will be used to hold revenues for the new town hall project.

What happened: The council unanimously approved an ordinance update that allows for alcohol to be served at events at specific town-owned properties with proper approvals.

What it means: Zionsville ordinances previously prohibited serving alcoholic beverages at events in most town-owned facilities. Maplelawn Farmstead, which hosts private events in a town-owned building, asked the town to consider updating the ordinance. The new regulations also apply to the town hall building.

What’s next: The ordinance is in effect. Organizers of events wishing to serve alcohol must submit a special event application, which must be reviewed and approved by all town department heads and the deputy mayor or mayor.
