Walsh Construction plans to continue setting beams this week for the new 106th Street bridges over Interstate 69.
Crews have finished setting beams over southbound I-69 and plan overnight traffic restrictions to set beams over northbound I-69 beginning Sept. 6.
The innovative roundabout design of the new interchange consists of two separate bridges, each carrying one direction of 106th Street over I-69. Twenty-four beams, measuring 50 inches tall and totaling 175 feet long, are being set in pairs over I-69.
Work is dependent on favorable weather, and construction schedules are subject to change.
Each night this week between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m., drivers should expect:
- Up to three right lanes of northbound I-69 will be closed.
- Up to two left lanes of southbound I-69 will be closed.
- Rolling slowdowns of up to 40 minutes each on northbound I-69.
During rolling slowdowns, pilot vehicles will slow traffic approaching the construction zone to create gaps in traffic that will allow for safely lifting the large beams over the interstate. Multiple rolling slowdowns lasting up to 40 minutes at a time will be required to set all beams over the northbound roadway.
Backups and delays should be expected. Traffic will be allowed to clear between each beam setting. Motorists should seek alternate routes to avoid congestion and delays.
