I-69 southbound lanes to shift Saturday night between 116th, 106th Streets

Milestone Contractors plans to shift traffic lanes on southbound Interstate 69 between 116th Street near Exit 205 and 106th Street near Exit 204, beginning Saturday evening, March 4, as part of the I-69 Major Moves 2020 construction project.

Up to three lanes of southbound I-69 may be closed after 7 p.m. as crews paint new lane markings and shift all lanes to the left to accommodate construction of an additional lane along the right shoulder, between the 116th Street entrance ramp to southbound I-69 and the new 106th Street exit ramp. All lanes are expected to be open in the temporarily shifted configuration before 9 a.m. Sunday, March 5.

In addition to adding a southbound lane to I-69 between 116th and 106th Streets, Milestone Contractors is adding a third lane in the median to each direction of I-69 between Ind. 37 (Exit 205) and Ind. 38 (Exit 219), widening the Campus Parkway (Exit 210) bridge over I-69 and re-configuring the interchange into a double-crossover diamond design as part of the I-69 Major Moves 2020 project.

Beginning in April, weather permitting, Campus Parkway interchange traffic will be shifted into a double-crossover diamond configuration, which is intended to improve traffic flow during the remainder of construction of the permanent interchange improvements.

Two lanes of traffic in each direction of I-69 are currently shifted to accommodate construction of the additional travel lanes. Signs direct large trucks to use the left lane while traffic is shifted toward the right shoulder through the work zone. The speed limit is reduced to 60mph and further reduced to 50mph when workers are present.

Other improvements are also being made to maintain and preserve existing bridges, pavement and drainage structures on the 15-mile stretch of interstate. For more on this project, visit http://www.in.gov/indot/3440.htm.
