The February Teacher of the Month winner is Eli Moffett, a language arts teacher at Clay Middle School. Student Jasmine Hsu nominated him. As a reward, Jasmine won a pizza party for the class, and Moffett won a $50 Visa gift card from sponsor Edge Guys.

Here is Jasmine’s winning essay:

People underestimate teachers. They call them crazy for willingly spending time with prepubescent moody middle scholars. That’s where they’re wrong. Teachers aren’t crazy, just willing to devote their time to the next generation of engineers, doctors, and CEO’s. One such teacher is my English teacher, Mr. Moffett. From his educational PowerPoint’s to his amusing tips on how-to-read-without–getting-caught, he has educated my peers and I and is teaching us on how to reach our full potential. He gives us feedback without being patronizing and feeds us information while keeping us engaged. He is one of the best teachers out there.

To submit an essay and nominate a teacher for the March Teacher of the Month, email a 100-word essay to [email protected]. Essays are due by March 31.
