Breaking: Multiple agencies investigating ‘criminal act’ involving elderly woman, caretaker in Zionsville

At approximately 6 p.m on March 17, the Boone County Sheriff’s Office received a call about criminal activity occurring at 1545 S. US 421 in rural Zionsville.

An elderly woman, identified as Helen Irene Fix, 76, of Boone County, and her caretaker, who is yet to be identified, were the victims of what authorities are calling a “criminal act.” The Boone County Sheriff’s Dept. has not released any details on what kind of criminal activity occurred.

Fix is the owner of the residence at 1545 S. US 421.

In a media release, Sheriff Mike Nielsen said they are currently exhausting every resource as they continue to actively work on the case and locate the person responsible for the criminal act. The sheriff’s office along with the Zionsville Police Dept., Zionsville Fire Dept. and personnel from the Boone County Prosecutor’s Office have come together in a multi-agency effort to attempt to bring the situation to a quick resolution.

The victims were immediately transported to St. Vincent’s Hospital. Fix has been released from the hospital. The caregiver was originally listed in critical condition, but now remains in the hospital in stable condition.

The Boone County Sheriff’s Crime Scene Investigators have secured the crime scene and conducted several interviews in regards to the case. The sheriff’s office stated it will be continuing the investigation throughout the weekend.
