The third version of Carmel Celebration of Bands will feature four new groups along with two new venues.

With the construction, the downtown Carmel portion of the free concerts has been moved to the 100 block of Second Avenue NW between Bub’s and Scotty’s Brewhouse. The performances start at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 18 downtown and returning there at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Tom O’Brien is serving as a presenting sponsor.

“I think we’ll be able to put in as many people as we were at the other place,” said Charlie Conrad, Indiana Wind Symphony founder and musical director.

IWS is founding host of the two-day event.

The first five bands will play inside The Tarkington at The Center for the Performing Arts, starting at noon Aug. 19. Previously it had been held at the Palladium.

“They are changing the configuration of the Palladium around for the Gala so we couldn’t do it there,” Conrad said of the Songbook Celebration Gala set for Sept. 30.

Conrad said organizers try to bring in new groups each year to join audience favorites.

One of the new new bands is Jefferson Street Parade Band.

“It’s kind of like a Dixieland street band,” Conrad said. “They’re based in Bloomington and have eight or nine members. They’ll play a variety of jazz.”

Other new groups are the Lake Area Concert Band, Indianapolis Symphonic Band and 65th Street Klezmorim.

The Hopkins Miller Dixieland Band will return for the third time and will be the final performers of the two-day show.

“They do a great job and the crowd really loves them,” Conrad said. “Indianapolis Brass Choir has been with us for all three.”

The Indiana Wind Symphony will play two different shows, one at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 18 and another at 3 p.m. Aug. 19. Soprano Jessamyn Anderson, a 2011 Carmel High School graduate, will perform with IWS each night.  Also performing is Vyrb, a jazz quartet led by Chris Drabyn, the Carmel Middle School director of bands.
