Five Seasons Family Sports Club will soon close after 21 years of serving the Indianapolis and Carmel area.
“Corporex felt that the addition of the city-owned Monon Center and low-cost facilities had their effect over time,” said Andrea Calvert-Sanders, Five Seasons chief club officer, director of tennis operations and director of women’s tennis. “Over this past year the property was rezoned to a high density office use and the company intends to market the property for redevelopment.”
Calvert-Sanders said Five Seasons will be a fully-functioning club until Sept. 30. The closing comes a year after Corporex Cos., owners of Five Seasons, submitted plans to the City of Carmel to rezone the site at 1300 E. 96th St.
Calvert-Sanders said she does not know what will be developed in the Five Seasons location after Sept. 30 but said she would like to see it stay a family recreation or tennis facility.
She reported there are no plans at this time for a Five Seasons in Indiana after the closure. Five Seasons does have locations in Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois. The Indianapolis site serves 1,300 members and has approximately 84 employees.
“We have wonderful members that have been with our club for several years. Many feel that this is their home away from home,” Calvert-Sanders said. “My team and I worked hard over the last two years trying to improve the club and their experience.”
Calvert-Sanders said she hopes members take time prior to Sept. 30 to enjoy the club and the programming they provide through tennis, fitness, child care and group exercise.
“We will have several activities for [members]as we celebrate our departure,” she said. “We are working with local facilities to provide information to [members]so they can decide their next course of action.”
