AT&T announced a donation of $25,000 to Fishers High School’s Fellowship Program on Aug. 3. AT&T’s Indiana President Bill Soards made the announcement official at an event at Launch Fishers at 7 Launch Dr.

Soards said this is the third year for the scholarship program which has donated a total of $50,000 to Launch Fishers.

“It has been a huge success,” Soards said. “We are focused on success, there are so many tools available here at Launch Fishers.”

Launch Fishers began operations in 2015. The fellowship annually accepts students with entrepreneurial endeavors to participate in a week-long boot camp featuring accomplished business leaders expertise. After the boot camp, students will usually take up interviews with prospective host companies in hopes of gaining a summer internship, which most do.

Other top names at the announcement included, State Senator Jim Merritt, Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness, and Founder and CEO of Launch Fishers John Wechsler.

“We want to thank Bill (Soards) and the entire AT&T crew,” Wechsler said. “With everything we need, AT&T has helped us grow and build a strong community. We really appreciate that.”

Wechsler also thanked Fadness for his support in “constantly engaging our best and brightest from the high school.”

“AT&T’s signature philanthropic initiative, AT&T Aspire, drives innovation in education – through technology, social innovation and relationships – to ensure all students have the skills they need to succeed in school and beyond,” the company’s website stated.

As for Fadness, he focused his message on keeping Indiana moving forward, through means of technology and economic development across the city.

“When we first started this concept at Launch (Fishers), nobody knew what (the city) was talking about,” Fadness said. “Now so many amazing companies are coming out of this facility. We will continue to be an innovative city and open up the classroom – the entire notion of making the world a classroom. We want to move Indiana forward, let’s keep moving forward.”

Republican Indiana State Sen. Jim Merritt thanked AT&T for its continued work across the state.

“There is always something going on here at Launch Fishers,” Merritt said. “AT&T is rolling, and they are contributing all around the state. (AT&T) is making this a business friendly atmosphere.”

For Soards, he sees this donation as something of a relish for Indiana’s sustained growth.

“We are pleased to make this contribution, on behalf of AT&T,” Soards said. “Fishers is a magnet for entrepreneurship across the state. We could not do this without the help of Indiana, this state is such a special place.”
