Zionsville library seeking feedback to build new website

The Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Public Library wants patrons to have a voice in designing its new website.

Feedback can be submitted through an online link at http://bit.ly/2vtqKRA. Paper versions of the survey will be available at all library circulation desks.

The survey will be available through Aug. 20. It asks customers how they use the website, the ease of searching for information and what features are important.

“We’re ready to get on this project,” HMMPL Marketing Director Virginia Hilbert said. “This is going to be a long process.”

The library is planning to hire a website design group for development. Website upkeep will be managed by library staff.

“The design firm is going to help us create a website that’s customer-focused and customer-friendly so when somebody visits our website they’re going to immediately see the option they’re looking for,” Hilbert said. “We don’t want them to have to search.”

The current website will receive a complete overhaul. Hilbert said previous surveys and comments have shown the top customer needs are accessing library accounts from home, searching for materials, scheduling events and downloading reading materials.

According to Hilbert, the website was updated a few years ago in an effort to simplify online resources, but there’s a need to rework the format.

“It’s just time,” she said. “Technology advances so quickly, we see the need to try to stay up to date.”

Hilbert said the goal is to complete the new site by the end of 2017.

Testimonials needed

The library is requesting testimonials from patrons to post to the website illustrating beneficial services the library provides or ways that the library has helped people in the community. Those testimonials may be sent to marketing@zionsvillelibrary.org.
