The Russian School has found a new home and executive director Natalia Rekhter couldn’t be happier.

The school will now hold its classes at Carmel High School starting Sept. 10.

“We’ve added more classrooms and a variety of classes,” Rekhter said.

Classes were previously held at University High School for five years on the west side of Carmel. Anna Schultz, the school’s principal and director of academic affairs and strategic planning, said it helps that CHS is centrally located for the students who are coming from Fishers, Westfield and Noblesville. Schultz and Rekhter are Carmel residents

“I’ve gotten calls from people who quit the school and now say it’s more convenient for them to go,” Schultz said.

The classes will held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays. Saturdays, the classes will be held at the Center for Early Orthodontic Treatment in Carmel.

Schultz replaces Katya Klauz, who has retired as principal.

“We were looking for someone to be staying with school longer, so it’s important to have continuity,” Rekhter said. “I’m just so happy she joined us, because Katya and I had been doing it for a long time. Anna brought a lot of different perspectives. She has made it more professional and expanded our offerings.”

Schultz said there will eight rooms for classes in the morning and afternoon.

“I hope for Carmel High School it was important to them because we can offer something different,” Rekhter said.

Schultz said they want to offer exposure to science for ages 4 to 8. Some classes will offered in Russian and some in English.

Alla Morozov, a Carmel resident who also helps with publicity for the school, will teach a class that will explain to children how electricity or inventions work.

“It will be designed for kids ages eight to 12,” Morozov said.

Schultz said classes will be offered for early language exposure, starting around age 2. Game programming is another popular class.

There also are classes for adults, including art and Russian.
