The Alternative Hair Studio, 13578 E 131st St., is doing something a little different to make sure guests feel taken care of and beautiful.

On Nov. 12, the studio will offer its haircut services to the women of Dove Recovery House, an Indianapolis-based facility with a goal of “empowering women to become substance free, self-sufficient and healthy by providing safe housing, quality programming and above all hope for their future,” according to the organization’s website.

“One of the things here is we love our guests, we love making them feel beautiful,” said Amy Calanog, who co-owns the studio with her husband, Ted. “We want to have these women come in. We believe in showing gratitude by giving back. This is something we’ve been working on for a couple months.”

Although this is the first event of its kind by Alternative Hair Studio, the Calanogs plan to continue giving back to the community.

“We love the community here and feel it’s very important to give back,” Calanog said.

Stylists will donate their time to work on Sunday to provide services to the women. Approximately 20 women will receive haircuts.

“We are really excited about having these women come in and make them feel beautiful and make this day about them so they can relax and feel pampered,” Calanog said.

Calanog said the studio would love to work with other organizations on giving back to the community. For more or to contact the studio, visit thealternativehairstudio.com.
