Doctor pleads guilty – Dr. Donald Cline of Zionsville has pleaded guilty to two counts of obstruction of justice relating to claims that he used his own sperm sample to inseminate patients at an Indianapolis fertility clinic where he worked in the 1970s and 80s. He admitted to misleading investigators with the Office of Indiana Attorney General during a consumer complaint investigation into those claims. Cline, 79, was given a 365-day suspended sentence for the felony conviction.

Book signing – Black Dog Books, 115 S. Main St., will hold a book signing from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 30. Dr. Chuck Dietzen will sign copies of his book, “Pint-Sized Prophets.” Dietzen is the head of a foundation that builds medical clinics around the world. Pint-Sized Prophets highlights his medical mission work with children. The cost of each book is a donation to his nonprofit, Timmy Global Health Foundation. Call 317-733-1747 to reserve copy.

Lilly scholarships awarded – Central Indiana Community Foundation has announced the recipients of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarships. Among the 13 students selected for the full tuition scholarships were Cameron Harmon of Zionsville Community High School and Katherine Stanley of Lebanon High School.

Judge to take senior status – Judge William T. Lawrence of US District Court for the Southern District of Indiana has notified President Trump of his intention to take senior status effective July 1, 2018. Judge Lawrence will continue to render substantial judicial service as a senior judge. President Trump, with the guidance of Senators Joseph Donnelly and Todd Young, will nominate Judge Lawrence’s successor.

Recycle Christmas trees – To recycle live Christmas trees after the holidays, residents have several options. Please bring only bare trees, not bagged. Trees are not to be dumped in any Zionsville parks.

Christmas lights recycling – From now until Jan. 15, Akard True Value will accept old Christmas lights whether they work or not. Gathered lights will be recycled with C.A.R.S. (Child Adult Resource Services) to help build a cleaner environment and create opportunities for people with significant disabilities who want jobs and take pride in what they do.

REMC Board seats available – At the spring annual meeting of Boone REMC, members will elect one director per district to represent districts 4, 5, and 6. Boone REMC members residing in districts 4, 5, and 6 who are interested in running must complete a petition packet. It can be downloaded at www.bremc.com/category/co-op-events/. Members may also pick up a packet at the REMC office, located at 1207 Indianapolis Ave., Lebanon. Petitions must be signed by no less than three percent of the account holders of record in the district for which a candidate is seeking election and must be received in the co-op’s office by 4:30 p.m. on Jan. 9.

STEM fest 2018 – The Indiana Pacers will host STEM Fest 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 11 at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. This interactive event is open to students of all ages and their families. It is a great opportunity to learn how science, technology, engineering and mathematics are used in sports and other careers. Cost is $10 per person and includes admission to the Pacers game. Father-son breakfast – Fathers and sons are invited to Zionsville All-Pro Dad’s Day Breakfasts. These monthly gatherings provide some father-son quality time while hearing great speakers at the same time. Meetings run from 7 to 8 a.m. at Zionsville Community High School on the following dates: Jan. 18, Feb. 15, March 15 and April 19. Cost is $15 for each father-son pair, $3 for additional guests. Coffee With a Cop – The Zionsville Police Department invites the public to Coffee With a Cop at 9 a.m. on Jan. 24 at McDonald’s, 50 Brendon Way. Community members can meet with officers, ask questions and learn more about the department’s work.

2017 Neediest Cities – Personal finance website WalletHub took a look at cities across the nation to determine where Americans are the most economically disadvantaged. Factors they considered include child poverty rates, number of uninsured residents, homelessness and others. Indianapolis was tenth on the list of 180 of America’s neediest cities.
